Haiti - Culture : Inauguration of the Museum of Artillery of the Citadelle Henry Christophe

Josette Darguste, acting Minister of Culture accompanied by Monique Rosann, the Director General of the Institute for the Protection of National Heritage (ISPAN), Michèle G. Frisch, the Curator and Director of the Musée du Panthéon National Haïtien (MUPANAH) has officially opened Sunday, November 17, 2013, the "Museum of Artillery of the Citadelle" in the presence of Ms. Maryse Noel, the Director General of the Ministry Tourism.

The museum, built within La Citadelle presents the greatest known collection of cannon of eighteenth century. Almost all of these canons, mortars or howitzers, in cast iron or bronze, of origin of French, English, Spanish and Italian, have been won on the enemy on the battlefield by the Indigenous army, commanded by General Toussaint Louverture and then by General Jean Jacques Dessalines.

"With the Museum of Artillery of the Citadelle, begins a new travel through time and the vision of King Builder, Henry Christophe," said Michèle G. Frisch.

For her part, Ms. Monique Rosann, expressed her gratitude to the Founding Fathers of the Haitian Nation "What ever grow our love for this land, which saw us born, our gratitude for those who have passed it to us

and our civic engagement to keep it beautiful and worthy for our son."

The rehabilitation of this fortress, at the expense of ISPAN, resumed there five months to allow the development of other museum areas, such as the officers' quarters and the Palace of the Governors.
