Haiti - Back to school : A set of concrete measures from the Government

As the start of the 2026-2027 school year approaches (September 7), the government of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that no child or family is left to face the challenges of returning to school alone.

On Friday, September 4th, 2026, during a press conference, the government presented a series of concrete measures designed to alleviate the economic burden on parents, improve students' learning conditions, and guarantee a safer return to school throughout the country.

Through a joint effort by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), the Ministry of National Education (MENFP), and the National Education Fund (FNE), financial support will be provided to 130,000 parents of schoolchildren and 30,000 vulnerable families. Because in Haiti, no parent should have to choose between feeding their family and sending their child to school, this support is a concrete act of national solidarity.

At the same time, the Government is continuing its efforts to provide children with a more dignified and conducive learning environment: rehabilitation of 52 national schools and high schools, construction and inauguration of new facilities, distribution of 8,000 pieces of school furniture, support for school canteens, and other measures to benefit the educational community.

The safety and protection of students also remain a priority. The Haitian National Police (PNH) has mobilized 10,750 police officers as part of a special operation designed to support the start of the school year and strengthen security throughout the academic year. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works continues its work to improve traffic flow, reduce risks associated with inclement weather, and better protect the population.

Through these actions, the Government aims to send a clear message to the children of Haiti, their parents, and the entire educational community : "School remains a space of hope, dignity, and the future."
