Haiti - Mexico : 3,000 humanitarian visas issued to Haitians

Ignacio Frayre Zúñiga, Representative of the National Institute of Migration (INM) revealed that for Aguascalientes (Northern Center Region of Mexico) 3,000 visas were issued to people from Haiti, so that they can have a legal stay and collaborate in the economic and cultural life of Mexico.

After recalling that in October and November of last year, Mexico faced an extraordinary situation with the arrival of thousands of families who came to seek job opportunities and a better life https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35319-haiti-migration-the-mexican-government-is-trying-to-cope-with-the-massive-influx-of-haitians.html in response, the Mexican government decided to grant them humanitarian visas. so that they can legally stay in the country

He also explained that many Haitian immigrants had vocational training. With this visa "Haitian migrants receive a unique ID, register for the SAT (taxes) and companies can offer them health services, a living wage and legal residency based on their skills and work abilities."

Ignacio Frayre Zúñiga recalled that the cards (Humanitarian Visa) issued are valid until October 2022 and that Haitians who wish to renew them can do so, since it is an agreement between the governments of Mexico and Haiti to grant them temporary or permanent visas.

He also highlighted the support of the business sector, in particular the work carried out by Sofía Acosta Jaime, the President of the Mexican Association of Women Entrepreneurs (AMEXME), in facilitating the inclusion of people who find themselves on a humanitarian visa, so that it is possible for them to be employed in a formal way, with all the advantages, since even many of these people have a university education.
