New Canadian Ambassador to Haiti

On Monday, September 14, 2026, at the National Palace, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé received Alexandre Côté, the new Ambassador of Canada to Haiti, during the formal ceremony for the presentation of his credentials.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Raina Forbin, Minister of Foreign Affairs; the Secretary General of the National Palace, Ms. Elisabeth Régine Haddad; and several other dignitaries.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Prime Minister and the new Canadian Ambassador to Haiti to reaffirm their shared commitment to consolidating and strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas of mutual interest.

More about Alexandre Côté :

Alexandre Côté (B.A. with a specialization in International Studies, Glendon College, York University, 1995);

M.A. in Economics [Development Administration and Management], University of Manchester, 2002.

He began his career as an assistant administrator with the United Nations Development Programme. He spent ten years working with the UN and civil society organizations in South Africa, Burkina Faso, Canada, Haiti, Italy, Kenya, and Mauritius before joining Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada in 2008.

Abroad, he served as Regional Trade Commissioner in Mozambique and Regional Trade Commissioner in Senegal, and simultaneously held the positions of Political Counsellor and Head of Cooperation in Haiti. At headquarters, he served as Deputy Director for the Americas and Europe within the Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force, a role in which he managed the Global Peace and Security Fund. He also served as Deputy Director for South American Relations, overseeing political and economic ties with the Pacific Alliance, Chile, Colombia, and Peru. More recently, he was Director of the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Regional Office within the Trade Commissioner Service.

Ambassador Alexandre Côte is fluent in seven languages: French, English, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Mauritian Creole.
