4 exceptional and rare manuscript documents on the imprisonment and death of the precursor of the Independence of Haiti, General Toussaint Louverture, in Fort Joux in the Doubs (Savoie, France) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12415-haiti-politic-moving-tribute-of-president-martelly-to-toussaint-louverture.html , were acquired by the Haitian National Pantheon Museum and are now exhibited in the collections of the Museum.

They are :

1) An extract from the minutes of the registry of the peace justice of the canton of Pontarlier dated April 7 and 9, 1803 which summarizes the death and autopsy of Toussaint Louverture;

2) A letter from actor Préfet Pajot du Doubs, dated April 7, 1803, announcing the death of Toussaint Louverture;

3) A letter from the Commissioner of Police Micaud to the Prefect of Doubs, dated April 20, 1803, detailing the results of the autopsy of Toussaint Louverture;

4) An inventory of Louverture's personal property at the time of his death.

Recall that these rare documents in the history of Haiti were put up for sale on the "Swann Auction Galleries", in New York, in the first quarter of 2019.

The MUPANAH was supported in these proceedings by Professors Laurent Dubois, Founder of the "Forum for Scholars & Publics" of Duke University; Marlene Daut, Associate Director of the "Carter G. Woodson Institute" at the University of Virginia and Julia Gaffield, Assistant Professor of History at Georgia State University, for a grant from the Breslauer BH Foundation to acquire this important set of documents from Swann Auction Galleries.

The MUPANAH expresses its gratitude to the BH Breslauer Foundation for its generosity, which is an excellent contribution to the enrichment of the documents on the Father of Independence of Haiti and to better meet the curiosity of researchers and visitors of the museum.
