Haiti - Politic : Sanctions for non-compliant products for consumption

Following visits in early April https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27361-haiti-health-vast-operation-of-quality-control-of-food-products-in-the-shops.html , the inspectors of the Department of Quality Control and Consumer Protection (DCQPC) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MCI), have detected and removed from the shelves of some supermarkets of the metropolitan area of products non-compliant or unfit for consumption.

In a note, Ronell Gilles, the Minister of Trade and Industry reminds manufacturers and distributors of food products the obligation to comply with the notice dated May 4, 2007 and resumed November 24 2008 and February 25, 2010 which states "food products on the shelf must be sound and properly packaged and properly labeled, respecting the expiration date."

In order to ensure the strict enforcement of sanitary standards, the Ministry of Commerce prohibits the sale or distribution of adulterated, mislabelled or expired food products.

Minister Gilles wishes to recall that "the nonobservance of the fundamental provisions of the notice, on the basis of a report drawn up by two sworn inspectors, entails against the offender a fine of 1,000 gourdes by expired product seized on the reasons and this, since April 8, 2019."

"In this context, interested parties are invited to take all the necessary measures to comply with these measures," concluded the Minister.
