Haiti - Technology : Solar drinking water... Soon for everyone ? 11/02/2011 12:46:27
End of 2010, the company BIO-UV specializes in water treatment, developed a drinking water treatment plant (BIO-SUN) that runs on solar energy. Combining a very fine filtration and a disinfection by ultraviolet radiation (UVR), water is purified and freed of all micro-organisms. This terminal can independently produce potable water for all populations located in areas where access to clean water is unavailable. The company BIO-UV will install graciously in Haiti during February, a terminal of water production photovoltaic to address the shortage of drinking water, and development of viruses and infections carried by water, including cholera. Lysa society, which specializes in sustainable water management will be responsible for setting up the terminal, and training people on the spot. The principle is simple: Just fill the reservoir with water (manually or by connection to a network if any) that you wish to disinfect. Within seconds the water is consumable for basic needs. The capacity of this terminal can process the equivalent of 500 liters/hour [with 400 J/m2 of sunshine]. Given its photovoltaic power, this terminal [in the absence of sun] has a battery life of 3 days, 4 hours use per day [2,000 liters], which allows in this situation to meet the daily requirement of a hundred people.
