Haiti - Climate : Hurricane Igor and the alarmist media 14/09/2010 12:01:57
Thus for several days the Igor hurricane has made the headline of the Haitian media "Orange Alert in 10 departments" "The government fears the floods on the passage of Igor" "Haiti remains under the threat of the powerful Igor hurricane" "Haiti fears the passage of Igor" It is good to recall that the Igor hurricane was yesterday Monday to 2.380 km of Port-au-Prince and that the recent rains in Haiti do not have absolutely anything to see with this hurricane. The Igor hurricane moved Monday towards the west-north-west through the Atlantic at the speed of 20 km/h but without threatening the grounds with winds from 220 to 240 km/h, according to the National Hurricane Center, based in Miami which specified that Igor could become an hurricane force 5 by Tuesday. The experts estimate that the cyclone could turn towards the west-north-west [what it seems to have begun to make], by Tuesday and pass near the northern zone of the Caribbean. Igor is still too far for that the computer modeling of its trajectory can be confirmed in relation to the Caribbean islands, and without excluding the risk which it could represent for the grounds, there is no reason these last days to be alarmist prematurely [unless the objective is to increase the audience of these media], on the other hand, what we can be sure it is that this media alarmist reinforces a little more each day the fears and the anguishes in the Haitian population. Let us recall that the center of vigilance Meteorological of Haiti has not issued bulletin of vigilance for the country and all the orange alerts were withdrawn. HL/ HaitiLibre
