On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Montana Hotel, Marc-Elie Nelson, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), participated in a symposium on "Haitian Migration and its Contemporary Dynamics : Between Crises, Mobility, and Public Responses."

Organized by the Jean Price-Mars Diplomatic Academy, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this symposium aimed to assess the current situation of Haitian migration in order to formulate appropriate responses.

In his address, Minister Nelson advocated for the protection of Haitian migrants : "We must strengthen the protection of our migrants, deepen international cooperation, create more opportunities for our youth, and better integrate the diaspora into national development strategies," emphasizing that we live in an era where migration issues occupy an increasingly important place in international relations and public debates worldwide.

In light of this situation, Minister Nelson reaffirmed his commitment to working with all relevant institutions to promote social policies capable of reducing the vulnerabilities that fuel forced exile.

"Haiti is not condemned to perpetually export its youth and its most dynamic citizens. Our country possesses extraordinary human resources. Our people possess a resilience that the entire world recognizes…” declared the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor. He pledged to work towards making migration a national project, enabling the country to develop the capacity to retain its young people, bring back its talented citizens, and restore hope to its people.

This symposium provided an opportunity for prominent figures from the diplomatic, academic, and institutional spheres to present the results of their work on the issue of Haitian migration.
