Haiti - Economy : Road blockade against Guy Philippe

Monday January 29, 2024, truckers and unions from Cap-Haitien blocked the main road leading to Ouanaminthe and the road exit to Port-au-Prince. The protesters are demanding that former elected Senator and former rebel leader, Guy Philippe leave the country.

Furthermore, some public offices have been occupied while Philippe keeps his demonstrators in the streets to demand the departure of Prime Minister a.i. Henry.

Armed groups paint on the walls of buildings "Non-intervention by Kenya in Haiti, Ariel out".

Despite the protests in Ouanaminthe, hundreds of Haitians crossed the border to buy and sell goods at the binational market in Dajabón. However, thousands of Haitians living in remote areas were unable to go to the market due to the blockage of road access to Port-au-Prince and Ouanaminthe...

This Tuesday, demonstrations are expected to continue throughout the country, in the North-East. As a precaution, the authorities are calling on citizens not to send their children to schools and not to take to the streets.
