The Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI) informs that inflation in June and July 2023 continues to increase, but notes a slowdown in its growth speed compared to the month of May 2023. Indeed, the Consumer Price Index showed respective annual variations of 43.9% and 39.8% during the months of June and July, compared to 46.4% for the month of May 2023.

For the month of July 2023, (latest data available) inflation still remains high despite a drop of -4.5% year-on-year.

The year-on-year increase observed in July 2023 of 39.8% is the result in particular of consumption functions, the most important of which are:

"Food products and non-alcoholic beverages": +0.1% over one month and 48.0% over one year;

"Clothing and footwear": +0.9% over one month and 32.7% over one year;

"Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels": +5.5% over one month and 44.4% over one year

"Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance": +1.3% over one month and 34.0% over one year

Products having recorded more pronounced annual inflation:

Food:

Rice (on average 41.4%), meat (on average 62.7%), milk (on average 41.4%), edible oil (57.1%) and sugar (on average 40.0%) .

Article of clothing and shoes:

Dress (43.6%), shirt (37.7%), men's pants (30.3%), shoes, tennis shoes (33.1%) and sandals (34.8%)

Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance:

Living room furniture (51.5%), dining room (32.8%), generator (44.8%) and laundry soap (36.4%).

Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels:

Housing rent (48.5%), charcoal (35.6%), propane gas (41.1%) and kerosene (86.5%)

Regarding the prices of local and imported products, a reversal of the trend was observed on a monthly basis: imported products decreased by 0.,% in July while local products increased by 0.8%. On the other hand, at an annualized rate, imported products continue to increase more quickly in July with an increase of 41.5%, compared to 38.6% for local products.
