Haiti - Education : 220 young in vocational training
The section Community Violence Reduction (RVC) of the Minustah launched this month in Cap-Haitien, two vocational training projects, for total of USD$400,000 for 220 young people from difficult neighborhoods of the municipalities of North and Northeast.

120 young people aged between 18 and 25 years, one third are girls, benefit of the first project. Lasting six months, this course focuses on the "rehabilitation" through plumbing, construction, building, electrical, building, auto-mechanics, tailoring and cosmetology courses. This training is given to the Training Centre of the SOS Children's Village, an NGO partner in this project.

The second project whose theme is "Education and Socialization" is intended to train 100 young people, still from neighbourhoods at risk of municipalities of orth and Northeast, in agriculture, to help them develop their skills in agricultural production and livestock in order to promote local production.

This training, based on intensive courses takes place on the premises of the Foundation Vincent whose Director, Father Jean Paul Mésidor, believes that "youth is not only the future. It is also, and especially the present of a country."

"Sitting on a bench to learn is difficult, but very useful. By deciding to train you, you chose to be useful to you and to your community. A society with young people trained is a society full of hope and without violence," said Carl Henry Boucher, Northern Departmental Director of the National Police of Haiti (PNH)

For his part, Emilio Castaneda, the Head of Regional Office of the Minustah, said that the Minisutah arranges for its various interventions are job creators. That is why, the RVC has also set up an Office of Placement and of Orientation of Youth (BPOJ) to facilitate their integration into the labor market.

For his part, Milot, Nica Lagredel, the first magistrate of the town, promising to seek the services of the beneficiaries once their training is completed. It considers the mastery of agricultural techniques "necessary to the advancement of the country," noting that "if we had committed such actions earlier, we would not be there today to wait for everything we consume come from the outside."
