Monday, Mirardin Morlan, the DG of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), provided an update on the delivery of license plates, initiated in October 2014 and whose ultimate extension period granted to car owners and motorcycle, expired on 31 January.

"For the metropolitan area, we sold from October to now only 112.197 pairs of license plates, which represents 44.9% of the estimated number of vehicle [...] For the provincial towns including the metropolitan area, the rate rises to 51.2%."

For motorcycles, the results are worse, only 14.188 (3.76%) of the number plates were sold on some 376,000 registered motorcycles.

Mirardin Morlan who believes incomprehensible the vehicle owners behavior that do not meet their tax liability, warned that the DGI will not grant a new deadline. He asked the police to take responsibility and reminded taxpayers, that according to their vehicle, the registration cost ranges from 1,000 and 5,000 Gdes and between 500 and 1,000 Gdes for motorcycles.

The Director General of the DGI launched an appeal to refractories to comply, reminding them that according to law, any vehicle owner circulating with an old plate [or without plate] is liable to a fine of 10,000 Gdes.
