Haiti - Justice : Senate voted the first Anti-Corruption law in Haiti

Former Colonel Antoine Atouriste, Director General of the Unit for the Fight Against Corruption (ULCC) said he was satisfied of vote by the Senate, this weekend, of the first anti-corruption law in Haiti.

Until now, the Haitian Penal Code only punishing the illicit enrichment reminded Antoine Atouriste, this new law, that harmonizes the Haitian law with international conventions to which Haiti is signatory, will sanction now from 3 to 15 years of prison acts such as bribery, illicit enrichment, laundering of proceeds of crime, embezzlement of public property, embezzlement of public property, bribe, illegal commissions, overcharging but also the provision of gratuity , influence peddling, nepotism, secret funding of political parties, harassment, insider trading, illegal procurement, unlawful taking of interest and abuse of social goods.

Mr. Atouriste welcomed this great step in the right direction, noting that this law will greatly improve the ranking of Haiti among the most corrupt countries, while calling on the deputies to ratify in turn, this important law of the rule of law in Haiti.
