Haiti - Justice : Michel Forst not confident about the future of the Duvalier case

Michel Forst, declared on Radio France Internationale "[...] The international community, civil society organizations, myself, the Office of the United Nations Human Rights (OHCHR), we called for a judicial treatment of the past of Mr. Duvalier and we welcomed the fact [...] that President Duvalier would appear in court, he appeared, under conditions which are far from being completely fair conditions, but nevertheless, it was a first sign of hope for the victims to see that former President Duvalier responsible for many atrocities, was facing his victims in court.

[...] This is not a sign of reconciliation, it is simply the fact that all countries, need to go through this periodessential of judicial treatment of the past, to face justice for those responsible for abuses is what happens currently.

I'm not confident about the future of the case of Jean-Claude Duvalier. But we'll see, it is necessary to have confidence in the justice of Haiti, this is the first positive sign [...] the justice might work in Haiti, if indeed the Government and the Prime Minister launched the expected reforms in term of rule of law.

And in the field, things are known, the diagnosis is made, the country is over-diagnosed, we know what to do, unfortunately, we have the feeling that we stalled and that the justice reform, which was due in 2007, is still blocked..."
