Haiti - Justice : Soon reopening of the Institute of Forensic Medicine

An important meeting was held this week at the local Ministry of Justice and Public Security around the reopening of the Institute of Forensic Medicine. Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, Minister of Public Health and Population, and Me Michel Pierre Brunache, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, have clearly expressed their desire to reopen the Institute of Forensic Medicine in the month of February. A working group was established to accelerate the process.

The following decisions were adopted

- The appointment of two forensic doctors ;

- The repair of the building housing the IML and its opening to the Hospital of the State University of Haiti ;

- The opening of the Centre of anapathologie to the hospital de la Paix in Delmas 33 ;

- The appointment of medical staff by the Ministry of Public Health and Population ;

- The continuous staff training ;

- The approval of the operating budget ;

- The allocation to the Centre of material resources and specialized equipment.

By late January, training sessions will be organized by experts for Police officers and Magistrates.
