Signing of a private Haitian tourist complex project worth nearly $20M

On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, an establishment agreement was initialed between the Haitian government, represented by Stéphanie Smith, Minister of Tourism, and Ms. Suze Maurice, promoter of the MAAJEWV project, under the auspices of the Investment Facilitation Center (CFI).

The MAAJEWV project is a world-class tourist complex to be located in the Carénage coastal area of Cap-Haïtien. It will offer modern infrastructure, including upscale accommodations, restaurants, conference rooms, and recreational facilities to stimulate business tourism and economic development in the North.

The upscale accommodations will include a total of 120 rooms, divided into modern Standard Rooms with views of Cap-Haïtien Bay; Executive Suites for business travelers, equipped with a dedicated workspace; and Presidential Suites, offering maximum comfort and personalized concierge services.

The complex, which is heavily focused on business tourism, will include, according to available information: a large, modular convention hall capable of accommodating up to 500 people for international congresses, galas, or official launches; and three smaller meeting rooms equipped with audiovisual technology for board meetings and workshops.

For the comfort of both tourists and local clientele, plans include two themed restaurants offering local and international gourmet cuisine; a rooftop bar with panoramic views of the historic Carénage district and the sea; and wellness facilities: an infinity pool, a fitness center, and a full-service spa.

In addition, the project will feature a photovoltaic solar panel array coupled with industrial-grade battery storage to cover a significant portion of its electricity needs (including lighting and energy-efficient air conditioning). The project will feature a source separation system and an industrial composter for organic waste from restaurants, reducing the burden on municipal infrastructure. It will also include an on-site wastewater treatment plant (micro-station) to treat wastewater, which will be reused for irrigating green spaces, combined with a rainwater harvesting system.

The investment for the MAAJEWV project amounts to US$19.8 million.

The project is being led by the Haitian private sector (local and diaspora), with Ms. Suze Maurice as the consortium's principal promoter and investor. The business model is based on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), combining private funds with regulatory and customs support from the Haitian government through the CFI (Centre de Financement International – International Finance Center) and the Ministry of Tourism.

Beyond this signing, this event reaffirms the CFI's unwavering commitment to the tourism sector, identified as a strategic priority for national development. The CFI places tourism at the heart of its activities, recognizing its major role in wealth creation, heritage enhancement, and the country's international appeal.

The investment for the MAAJEWV project amounts to US$19.8 million.

Construction and development work is expected to take 24 months, and the resort is slated to open in the second quarter of 2028.

The MAAJEWV project will have a significant social impact in the Greater North region, creating over 350 permanent jobs during the operational phase (hotels, restaurants, event management) and approximately 1,200 temporary or indirect jobs generated by construction sites, local agricultural supply, handicrafts, and tourist transportation services.

No public photos, 3D models, or visual plans are available for the MAAJEWV hotel project. While the project has received legal and fiscal approval, its final architectural plans have not been publicly released. Tourism investment developers in Haiti typically only share renderings or models once construction or marketing begins.
