Haiti - Education : 11,085 students displaced by urban violence
The Ministry of National Education informs that the Commission it created to manage the implications of the cases of displaced children and teachers and of the schools which serve as temporary accommodation has completed the first phase of its census into their displacement.

According to information collected by the Ministry's Planning Directorate with the support of several young investigators, union representatives and UNICEF, there are 43 sites which bring together children, teachers and their families.

Among these sites located in the Communes of Port-au-Prince, Delmas and Tabarre, there are 19 public schools, 17 private schools and 7 other sites such as the Vincent Gymnase, Rex-Théâtre and the Faculty of Human Sciences.

This census shows that there are 11,085 students who attended school from preschool to high school 4 (5,597 girls and 5,488 boys) 2,231 are children under 6 years old already enrolled in preschool.

This information is important for planning the actions that the MENFP will undertake with the government, and with the support of other partners, to allow children in the sites to resume their school activities. Numerous efforts are also being made to allow schools that welcome displaced people to resume their activities from now on.

In the coming days, the Ministry will announce all the measures taken as part of the execution of the action plan currently being developed to allow children to return to school.

The Ministry takes this opportunity to remind you that in the coming days it will launch the radio and television educational activities of the Lycée National (Lise 2.0) to facilitate compensatory learning courses throughout the country to help children and young people to continue to prepare for their future.
