Haiti - Canada : Working meeting on the Haitian diaspora vote
On a mission to Canada to explore the possibilities of implementing voting for Haitians living abroad, a delegation from the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), composed of Peterson Pierre-Louis, Secretary General; Nemrod Sanon, Treasurer; Advisor Schnaïda Adély; and Françoise Suzan, Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of Haiti in Ottawa, held a working session with Global Affairs Canada regarding the Haitian electoral process. This session was part of the consultations undertaken by the CEP with countries hosting a significant Haitian community, with a view to examining the conditions necessary for implementing the pilot program for diaspora voting. Discussions focused in particular on the continuation of electoral cooperation between Haiti and Canada, the institutional, technical, and logistical arrangements necessary for organizing voting for Haitians living in Canada, and mechanisms that could facilitate their participation in the electoral process. Another meeting was held with members of Elections Canada. The CEP delegation took the opportunity to present the main guidelines adopted for electoral preparations and gathered information on the Canadian experience in organizing elections, particularly regarding accessibility, voter identification, and mechanisms to guarantee the integrity and transparency of the vote. The CEP reiterated its commitment to conducting the electoral process in an inclusive, impartial, transparent, and responsible manner, in strict compliance with the principles of electoral independence and integrity, as well as the right of every citizen to participate in the democratic life of the country.
