Haiti - FLASH : More than 22,000 ammunitions intercepted in the DR, two Haitian traffickers arrested

On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, soldiers from the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security (CESFRONT) assigned to the border operations base of Colonel Elías Piña, arrested two women of Haitian nationality accompanied by a girl of around 2 years old in in a white Lexus jeep during a check at the El Carrizal border post.

During the search of the vehicle, the soldiers discovered a shipment of clandestine ammunition that the two women intended to smuggle into Haiti. The cargo included 22,160 munitions including 12,000 7.62 mm caliber bullets and 10,160 5.56 mm caliber bullets. In addition, 5 cell phone were seized

One of the women arrested was identified as Milien Mildrene Manessa, the wife of Yvanosky Joachim, vice-delegate of the district of Belladère. The other women have been identified as Fara Josef.

The women and the minor as well as the vehicle and the ammunition seized were taken to the base of operations of Elías Piña for the corresponding legal consequences...

Haitian national Yvanosky Joachim, whose passport was found in the vehicle, has been living with his relatives for several months in the Dominican Republic due to insecurity in Haiti. Asked by the media about this case of ammunition trafficking, he said he did not know anything about what had happened...
