Haiti - Justice : The Minustah congratulate the Senate

In a press release the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah) welcomed the selection by the Senate of the Republic of 18 candidates https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-3705-haiti-justice-it-remains-18-candidates-for-judges-of-the-court-of-cassation.html for the six positions of judges to the Court of Cassation, and welcomes the launch of the process for the establishment of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ).

This selection will allow the President Michel Joseph Martelly to name the six judges to the Court of Cassation and the President of this Court.

The decision of the Senate of the Republic is an important first step towards the agreement of good governance that should govern the relations between the President of the Republic and Parliament in the best interests of the Haitian people. This nomination will allow the establishment on October 3, 2011 the Supreme Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), as stated by the President Martelly.

The Minustah recalls the importance of the establishment of an independent judiciary to strengthen the rule of law in Haiti and the consolidation of democratic gains.

This council will represent the cornerstone of an independent judiciary.

The Minustah reiterates its determination to support the Haitian authorities in the strengthening of the rule of law and will make available to the Government, upon request, all the technical expertise available to it.
