Haiti - Agriculture : The agricultural response plan underway

Friday, as part of the Agricultural Response Plan of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), Patrix Sévère, the Minister of Agriculture, Aubourg Marcelin Director of the Departmental Agricultural Department of the South and seven regional seed suppliers have signed a first series of contracts to ensure the availability of short-term food supply during the Covid-19 pandemic in the various communes of the South department.

These contracts stipulate that 78 tonnes of corn seeds (i.e. 28,860 pots), 17 tonnes of seed pea seeds (i.e. 6,300 pots), 1,000 pots of seed of unknown and congo peas, 5 million potato cuttings will be distributed to farmers in the South department.

On the same day, Minister Sévère, who favors short-cycle crops, went to the locality of Guichard, third communal section of Laborde, in Les Cayes, where he distributed seeds of maize, peas, gambo (kalalou) and potato cuttings to a few dozen farmers who had benefited from plowing services free of charge in their respective plots.

The Minister then went to Camp-Perrin where he visited the Organization for the Rehabilitation of the Environment, which specializes in seed production, among other things.

Patrix Sévère has ended his tour in Tiburon where his Ministry is about to launch the reshaping, containment and gabion protection works on the Tiburon River.
