Haiti - Politic : The Minister of Interior before the Senate Committee of Inquiry

The Senate Committee of Inquiry on the corruption and fraud recorded within the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), in the recent elections continues its hearings. Yesterday Wednesday was the turn of Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, Minister of the Interior and Territorial Collectivity (MITC), to respond to the questions.

Before the Commission, Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé has denied any implications of his Ministry in the alleged cases of fraud and corruption, whose the CEP would be guilty. The Minister was little chatty on the issues that were raised, saying only that he refused to answer questions relating to the rumors linking the MITC to an alleged manipulation of results. Stating that the organization of elections was the responsibility of the CEP, and not of his ministry.

Sen. Youri Latortue, who chairs the Commission, has also refused to comment on the content of the Session with the Minister Bien-Aimé, merely to state that "relevant information collected through this hearing will be added to the file..."

In addition, the Senator has announced that Paul Denis, the Minister of Justice, will be heard a second time next Tuesday to provide explanations on the functioning of the prosecution in this case...

A persistent rumor, circulated yesterday among relatives of the Commission, suggesting that the latter, could try to interrogate the former President René Préval, as part of its systematic refusal to dismiss the CEP...
