Haiti - FLASH : Black Wednesday at the Bicentenary and Martissant

On Wednesday, automatic gunfire was reported throughout the day at Bicentenaire, Avenue Bolosse and Martissant, and nearby neighborhoods where gangs clashed, causing transit paralysis and widespread panic.

Residents of Carrefour and the surrounding area remained stranded in Port-au-Prince because of the violence and some were unable to return home, forced to be hosted by friends and relatives in the capital

Heavy balance of this black Wednesday where at least one police offcier was killed, and several citizens wounded, at least two trucks of goods were diverted and a fire truck attacked by heavily armed gangs. According to witnesses of unidentified individuals, fired on the fire truck (who was returning from an intervention) and trying to cross a territory controlled by Gangs. The driver was killed and several firefighters injured, this is the provisional record of this day of violence...

In an attempt to regain control of the situation and restore order, a police operation was launched around 4:00 pm, according to our information, in the hottest areas controlled by several gangs.

Late in the night shots were still heard and tension and fear remained palpable among residents of the affected areas.
