Friday, the Ivorian businessman Evariste Akoumian, CEO and co-founder of SolarPack a company based in Ivory Coast, visiting Haiti this week, donated to the Ministry of National Education 1,000 Eco-friendly school backpacks with integrated lighting powered by solar energy stored in a rechargeable battery built into the bag.

Evariste Akoumian said that Haiti was the first country chosen internationally by his company for this donation, which is a first for the company stating "Our solution is a bag ecological, robust and weatherproof, multi-functional and easy to use [...] It is equipped with a photovoltaic plate, a battery and an LED lamp. It stores energy during the day, transforming it into light so that students can continue their studies in the evening. In one day, the school bag loaded with electricity, offers a range of 2 to 4 hours of lighting."

Harold Narcisse the Technical Coordinator in Minister Cadet's office and Nadine Henry the Director of Basic Education, who received the Head of SolarPack for the symbolic delivery of some samples of school bags thanked on behalf of the Haitian government and the Ministry in particular, the company for its generous action towards the schoolchildren of Haiti. He hopes that this act is only the beginning of a longer partnership that will reach many more students in the future.

enry specified that the bags will be distributed to students of the 1st and 2nd cycles of the fundamental through the departmental directorates for children living in remote and disadvantaged areas. She hopes that other bags will be distributed in the future to high school students who are also concerned by the electricity problem.
