Haiti - Culture : The orange economy an important role in the development of the country

During the Day of Dialogue on the Orange Economy of Haiti, held recently at the Convention Center of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) at the initiative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) around the theme "Can the Orange Haitian economy play a role for the country's development in the regional and global market ?" Limond Toussaint, the Minister of Culture intervened on creation, innovation and entrepreneurship in the Haitian orange economy.

Remember that the Orange Economy is defined through the creative industries that bring together a whole heterogeneous set of activities such as: traditional arts and crafts, publishing, music, visual and stage arts, cinema, television, radio, new media etc...

For Gilles Damais, IDB Country Operations Chief "Haiti, is a very creative and culturally rich country" and can count on IDB support, in terms of resources to develop its orange economy adding "We firmly believe that the industries creatives can play an important role in Haiti's development."

Extracts from the speech of Minister Limond Toussaint :

"[...]

Studies have been undertaken in Haiti on several value chains with high potential. However, the cultural and creative industries were not selected. The arts and crafts sector has been studied and large investments have been made by international donors for its development over the past twenty-five years. However, this sector can not be fully competitive without its integration into a much broader policy of support for the cultural and creative industries.

Our dialogue today is ESSENTIAL. Haiti is an impressive bastion of creators. These are able to feed the main economic sectors of culture. Our cultural heritage, both material and immaterial, is also one of the main competitive advantages of Haiti's cultural and creative industries.

[...]

Culture being today one of the dynamic sectors of the world economy, can serve as a lever for the economic and social development of Haiti, especially in the fight against poverty and wealth creation.

[...]

In this perspective, the Ministry of Culture and Communication plans in its 2017-2018 action plan to carry out the mapping and analysis of cultural industries and evaluate their effects on the Haitian economy.
