Haiti - Health : Graduation of the First Promotion of Midwives of the INSFSF

It's to the Hotel Ritz Kinam in Pétion-Ville, that took place on Sunday 18 December, the graduation ceremony of the First Promotion "Ifrène Rodeny Gabriel" of midwives of the National Institute of Training of Midwives (INSFSF).

After 36 months of study "This cohort of midwives reinforces the response strategy of the country's health authorities to the scourge of maternal mortality," said Dr. Grand'Pierre Director of Family Health (DFS) at the Ministry of Health, before inviting the 40 recipients to walk in the footsteps of Ifrène Rodeny Gabriel, n exemplary nurse "You have an important mission in this noble profession that you have chosen, that of accompanying pregnant women until their delivery," said Dr Grand'Pierre, who recalled that in Haiti, about 260,000 births occur each year, whose 6 out of 10 of them are done at home with an average mortality rate of 350 per 100,000 live births. These young girls who have received this solid training will enable the Ministry to reverse the trend in the years to come by making childbirths safer.

"[...] no woman should die by giving life, even less a child by discovering life", added Dr Gabriel Thimothé, Director General of the Ministry of Health, reminding that "the mortality rate of a country reflects its level of development [...]"

For her part, Marie Mara Medegine Revenge, the laureate of the promotion who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, believes that, given the quality of the training received, their mission is not only to accompany pregnant women, but also to fight against other pathologies, to makes advance the health system The fight against the maternal mortality is a combat of global scope; We are proud to partner in this battle to save the lives of our women," she concluded.
