Haiti - Social : The diaspora of Montreal criticizes the Minustah

Jean Fils-Aimé, Jean-Ernest Pierre and Wilson Saintelmy, three well-known figures of the Haitian diaspora in Montreal held a press conference on Friday to demand the withdrawal of UN troops.

"Minustah is in Haiti since 2004 and since then, their mission is a total failure. They had to bring stability, but the country has never been so unstable" says the teacher and businessman Wilson Saintelmy. He said it was too early to hold general elections after a part of the country has been destroyed by a powerful earthquake "Minustah is telling us, in retrospect, it is our fault and that the political class must resolve the matter".

Haitian election mess is another example, according to them "Some ballot boxes were removed and they were introduced in the polling station in full view of the UN said the Rev. Jean Fils-Aimé. If there is a responsibility, it should not be borne exclusively by the Haitian State". He believes that only Haitians can decide to help Haitians. "This is not the international community that can develop a country locally. We have enough human capacity in Haiti and we want to rebuild our country ourselves".

"A country never dies. Much work has been done, but the changes were not sufficient. Attitudes must change", said Jean-Ernest Pierre, animator with the CPAM radio, Montreal.

Saintelmy Wilson laments that "...the situation is even worse than it was at the time of slavery. The divide between the poor majority and the minority rich is even greater and the vast majority of the country's wealth is held by only six families", he laments, recalling that 80% of Haitians live on less than $2 Per day.

In a letter to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the diaspora of Montreal said fear "occupation unnecessary and ineffective. "
