Haiti - Diaspora : A doctorate «honoris causa» for a Haitiano-Canadian

Monday evening to Théâtre Maisonneuve of Place des Arts (Montreal) at the graduation of some 1,850 students from Concordia University, musician Régine Chassagne co-founder of the Montreal band "Arcade Fire" received a doctorate "honoris causa" of this university, to reward her commitment to Haiti and her influence on the international music scene.

Note that Régine Chassagne established, with Dominique Anglade (a childhood friend), the KANPE Foundation that fight against poverty in Haiti. She also serves on the board of the American NGO "Partners in Health". With her band "Arcade Fire", she managed to raise over $500,000 for the two organizations.

Régine Chassagne was born in Quebec August 18, 1977, of a family originally from Haiti who left Haiti to escape the regime of dictator Duvalier ("Papa Doc"). Her family moved first to Chicago and then New York before joining a sister in Quebec.
