Haiti - Social : International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 25/11/2010 15:04:20
To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), congratulates all the people, organizations and institutions which militate without slackening in favor of the eradication of the violence based on gender. The UN organization, wishes to acknowledge especially the leadership provided by its strategic partner, the Ministry of Women's Condition and Rights, and all other partners who have shown determination in the fight for an end to the Impunity for violence against women. UNFPA salutes the memory of all Haitian women, especially feminists foreground, who perished in the earthquake of January 12, 2010. Igor Bosc, Representative of UNFPA, condemns in the name of his organization, all forms of violence and discrimination against women. "One rape is one too many [...] By ending impunity for violence against women, we move faster towards peace, development and human rights. " The UNFPA-Haiti representative said regretted the lack of funding by donors, for prevention and fight against gender-based violence, and hopes that the proposals have been made on this subject to the Interim Haiti Reconstruction Commission (IHRC), are taken into account. Mr Bosc said that UNFPA will continue to act with partners to combat discrimination against women and girls, and is equally determined to work within the United Nations in collaboration with the Government and Civil Society in Haiti, for the implementation of the national fight against violence against women, which has been validated by various national and international actors.
