Haiti - Health : Japan donated $6,3M

Wednesday, Ambassador Yoshiaki Hatta accredited to Port-au-Prince and the UNICEF Representative in Haiti, signed in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Health (MSPP) and the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA), a grant agreement of the Government of Japan for an amount of 6.3 million US dollars for the prevention of the spread of cholera and support of the national immunization program.

$3.4 million will be allocated to strengthening cholera prevention in vulnerable rural communities to cholera of Centre department in partnership with DINEPA and the Ministry of Health. And 30,000 people will see their drinking water improved and 50,000 persons will benefit from adequate sanitation.

Furthermore 2.9 million will be allocated to the national vaccination program in Haiti. This amount will ensure the availability of vaccines against measles and rubella; the equipment necessary to carry out immunization activities for about 290,000 children; the provision and maintenance of the cold chain for vaccine preservation; the transportation and distribution of vaccines in health facilities across the country and the training of health workers responsible for immunization.
