Haiti - Education : Monitoring of the reconstruction progress of Lycée Alexandre-Pétion

About two years after the start of reconstruction (in two phases) of Lycée Alexandre-Pétion, whose the Ministry of Public Works is the prime contractor, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10032-haiti-education-the-lycees-petion-and-toussaint-an-important-step-towards-modernity.html , the level of progress of the project is estimated at over 60% today.

Covering an area of 9,400 m2, the Lycée Alexandre Pétion who will celebrate in 2016 its 200 years of existence, will be housed in a building that respects the strictest building standards. It will have 23 classrooms for the secondary section and 16 classrooms for the primary section. It will also include among others: a modern language laboratory, a laboratory of chemistry and physics, a computer lab, a library and playgrounds.

This historical heritage that formed so many men and women politicians, high-level executives will be able to open its doors in new premises at the beginning of the academic year 2015/2016 due to the efforts made by the administration of President Martelly.

The Lycée Alexandre-Pétioncreated in 1816, is the oldest high school in Port-au-Prince. The establishment wearing at that time the name of Grand Collège of Port-au-Prince. It later took the name of its founder, President Alexandre Pétion. The first large-scale building of the Lycée Alexandre Pétion was designed by architect Georges Beaussan and the inauguration took place January 7, 1906 under the presidency of Nord Alexis. Over the years, the premises of the Lycée Alexandre Pétion have aged badly and unfortunately the January 12 earthquake in January 2010 did not spare the buildings, which were largely destroyed.
