17 students graduated from a training and education program in the highly technical department of radiology at Hospital Bernard Mevs Project Medishare after completing eight months of training.

In a partnership with Lynn-Benton College in the United States, the radiology students participated in a rigorous training program, which combined hands-on experience and online components to become qualified X-Ray and CT Scanner technicians.

Two of the graduates will operate the CT Scanner at Hospital Bernard Mevs, a 16-slice, full body scanner donated by Yele Haiti in 2011 and the first of its kind in Haiti.

Jean Kensy Simbert, a recent graduate in the program explained, "X-Ray machines are now everywhere and there is more need for radiology technicians at new hospitals in Haiti. It will be easier for me to get a job."

This program, supported with a grant administered by the Multilateral Investment Fund, a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, helps the professional development of healthcare workers in Haiti to support the growing number of hospitals with technical equipment that requires specific skills.

The training program will enter its second phase with 23 students from Medecins Sans Frontieres, Adventiste Hospital and St. Luke’s. This includes 10 laboratory students enrolled in a 16-month program.

The recently graduated students will stay on at Hospital Bernard Mevs as employees, and two graduates will be employed by Zanmi Lasante (Partners in Health).
