Haiti - Social : Closing of the Projects of GIZ in the Region of Palmes

Max Cherestal, the Director of Cabinet of the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation, representing the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, in the presence among others of : German Ambassador to Haiti, Mr. Klaus Peter Schick, Mr. Berthold Boes, the Program Coordinator in the region of Palmes, William Guy, the Special Adviser to the Prime Minister and municipal authorities of the zone, proceeded last week to the closing ceremony of Projects of the Region of Palmes of the German Agency for International Development Cooperation (GIZ) [Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit], established in Haiti for more than two years.

M. Berthold Boes, gave a positive assessment of the achievements in the town of Grand-Goâve and the surrounding area, recalling that in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Health and Population, GIZ has built no less than 6 health centers in the town of Léogâne and Grand-Goâve. GIZ has also invested in the construction of social infrastructure allowing 12,000 persons to benefit of ,523 housing units built in Léogâne and Gressier. "We built 6 Fishing centers and made ​​available to fishermen, materials and appropriate equipment such as boats, traps, fishing lines [...]" noting that it remained huge things to do in the country and other projects will be considered in Haiti through the Fund of Economic and Social Assistance (FAES).

For his part, Max Cherestal, did not hide his satisfaction before these achievements [over $25 million] in the towns of the region of Palmes "Germany through GTZ [Gesellschaft für technische Zusammenarbeit, German Technical Cooperation], became the GIZ, has never ceased to support Haiti on the path of development and is always there to help the Haitian people in their quest for a better tomorrow," said Max Cherestal.

This closure of project, now calls to the taken over by the local administration and the implementation of a package of measures to help preserve and consolidate the achievements of these important interventions to boost local development.
