According to a report by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) "Una verdad universal: No hay salud sin agentes sanitarios" (A universal truth: There is no health without health personnel), Cuba is at the top the classification as the country with the highest density of medical human resources 134.6 per 10,000 inhabitants, followed the United States (125.1) and Canada (93.5).

According to results from this investigation, Haiti ranks last in the standings, with only 3.5 health professionals per 10,000 inhabitants, behind Guyana (11.2), Guatemala (12.5), Honduras (13.6) and Bolivia (14.1)...

Although 70% of countries in the Region have doctors, nurses and staff necessary to provide essential services to the population, the report stresses the need to improve the creation and maintenance of these professionals and to develop a medical training adapted to the specific needs of each country.

In this context, Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, Director of PAHO considers as a challenge to provide quality medical care and equitable for all, especially for people who live in remote areas.

"One of the main challenges to achieving universal health coverage is to ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable and those in remote areas, have access to health staff trained and culturally competent," emphasized in this report Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, Director of PAHO.

This report also discusses the training of professionals, as well as the progress made by the countries of the region on five key issues related to this area: planning, distribution, migration, labor relations and relations between training institutions and health services.

Remember that the health sector in Haiti is rebuilding, both in terms of infrastructure, of reforms that training. Many care centers, hospitals, clinics, university hospitals (HUEH) are nearing completion, under construction or planned. Infrastructures of vocational training as well as several major programs of training of health personnel have been and continue to be implemented, all these efforts of the Government of Haiti and its partners should almost certainly help in a future investigation to improve health services to the population and ranking of our country.
