"The protection of children is a priority for our Government. That they can enjoy the same level of protection that the law gives us adults is essential. The Martelly administration and Lamothe government, on many occasions, expressed their strong desire to make this country a place where human person would no longer be ignored," declared Minister Auguste during this workshop of validation.

Edouard Beigbeder the Representative of UNICEF in Haiti, for his part, congratulated the Haitian Government, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour and the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, for their commitment to continue and curling prescribed of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This periodic report by the Representative of UNICEF, is a crucial step allowing to provide an update on the implementation of the Convention, stating that "Today's exercise will allow us to create more synergy in the development of coordination mechanisms and joint and integrated response to the well-being of the child."

Remember that Haiti ratified in 1994 the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which obliges the Haitian State to present a detailed report, to the United Nations, every five years on progress in the protection of children's rights. Upon submission of the first report in 2001, the Committee on the Rights of the Child had made certain recommendations to the Haitian state. Note that in 2007 Haiti had not been able to submit its second report to the Council of Human Rights of the United Nations.

According to Ms. Rose Anne Auguste, the report that the Government is preparing to present to the UN, want to be the true reflection of the achievements of the state in relation to the recommendations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child.

At the end of this workshop, participants made a number of comments and recommendations that will be considered in the final report.
