Haiti - Justice : Opening Ceremony of the Courts

On Monday, the President Michel Martelly, participated in the opening ceremony of the Courts [2013-2014 judicial year] at the School of Magistrates in the presence of members of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), the judges of the Court of Cassation, members of the Council of the Bar of Port-au-Prince, of Me Jean Renel Sanon, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, other government officials, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps and a panel of personalities from the Basoche.

In his speech, the Head of State, reiterated the commitment of his administration in the irreversible construction of a rule of law in Haiti. He said he was always listening to the people who called for "Justice for All". The President of the Republic, believes that the construction of the rule of law is conceived with a strong, independent justice, serving as a support and bulwark. "Democracy and justice are essential in this process," ccording to the Head of State, who took the opportunity to point out his contribution to the strengthening of justice in the country since his rise to power : Establishment of the Higher Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) ; appointment of members of the Supreme Court ; opening the Police Academy ; Fight against corruption and protection of most vulnerable "For the first time in our history, the Judiciary walks towards its own autonomy," stressed the Head of State, who invited all citizens to get to work.

In addition, the President Martelly, called the civic consciousness of all professionals of Law and Justice, to make decisions based on the law and the Act. Affirming also that "The government is working hard to improve the lives of incarcerated prisoners and make disappear prolonged pretrial detention [...] My greatest wish is to work with you to recovery of Justice in strict observance of the principle of separation of powers. Voilà, Honourable Judges, intractable protector of the widow and fatherless, distinguished staff of tribunals what is our common responsibility to guarantee the stability and social peace," concluded the Head of State.
