Haiti - Social : Launch of a new social program «KORE LAVI»

Friday Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of the Republic, officially launched in Hinche, the Project of Support to the National Food Security Programme under the theme "Building a social safety net in Haiti".

The program, called "Kore Lavi", funded by the U.S. Government which concerns the departments of the Centre, Artibonite, North West, South East and West, reflecting the will of the Head of State who had made the promise to support the most vulnerable in strengthening the agricultural system.

It aims to reduce food insecurity and vulnerability, while preventing childhood malnutrition. "Kore Lavi" is the result of a plea made ​​in Washington DC, by Sophia Martelly in summer 2012, with the U.S. authorities.

The program, which directly impacting approximately 18,150 households through the provision of food vouchers and 205,000 people through maternal and child health and nutrition interventions, is according to Charles Jean Jacques, Minister of Social Affairs, in accordance with the vision and values ​​that underpin the guidance of social construction of the Administration Martelly and of Government Lamothe "Targeting more than twenty municipalities vulnerable to food insecurity, spread across 5 departments, this project is resolutely turned towards the most vulnerable. It demonstrates that the inclusion, solidarity and openness to the regions, is one of the pillars of the social security scheme of the Government."

The ceremony was held at the administrative complex of the city in the presence of the main actors of the project including: Charles Jean Jacques, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Pamela White, U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, John Groake, the Director U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Ms. Hélène Gayle, the Executive Director of CARE, Fréderic Roberts, Representative Action Against Hunger (ACF) and Mr. George Heymell, Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP).
