Haiti - Reconstruction : $20 billion needed to make Haiti a country emerging...

The Presidential Advisory Council for Economic Development and Investment (CCPDEI) will hold its annual meeting next week on the sidelines of the 68th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York with the participation of its members, including former presidents Bill Clinton who co-chairs the board with one of the greatest entrepreneurs of Haiti, Gregory Mevs.

In the balance sheet of CCPDEI, 5 major reforms initiated in the areas of energy, housing, land, mining and reforestation. "Haiti is not the least attractive country in the region. Violence has dropped considerably. There has acquired, democratic progress," stressed Grégory Mevs which recommends the adoption of incentive measures so that Haiti to be more competitive face the competition.

At the annual meeting of the Council in New York, Gregory Mevs proposes to look for investors to find the $ 20 billion needed for Haiti to become an emerging country in the next ten years. Grégory Mevs believes "According to our calculations [CCPDEI], the country needs $20 billion of direct investment for 5 to 10 years to become an emerging country," amount that he will propose to seek from investors at the annual meeting of the Council.

"We need 3 billion dollars of investment in the energy sector and nearly $4 billion in the port sector," said Stan Wojewodski the Special Adviser of Grégory Mevs.

On the other hand, the CCPDEI should sign next Thursday with "Deuscth bank" and Yunus funds, an agreement for a fund of $1 million for small and medium enterprises in Haiti.

Meanwhile, Monday, Sept. 23 at the UN headquarters in the margins of the 68th General Assembly, weill be held a Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Francophonie, to which should participate the Haitian Chacelier, Pierre Richard Casimir. This initiative, based on the renewed willingness of Heads of State and Government to strengthen the role of the Francophonie in international relations will be an opportunity for participants to discuss the crisis and efforts to consolidate peace, but also to address ways to strengthen partnership with the UN and partners of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), to support the implementation of the declarations of Bamako and St. Boniface.
