Haiti - Reconstruction : President Martelly awarded for its commitment...

Thursday, President Michel Martelly, has been awarded, in Ravine Cerisier, by 6 platforms representing 179 community organizations of Morne l'Hôpital in the presence of Jean Francois Thomas, Minister of the Environment, of Deputies Jean-René Lochard (Carrefour-Feuilles), Bélange Nzunaya (Martissant), Elie Blaise (Carrefour) et the Mayor of Petion-Ville, Ms. Yvanka Bianca Jolicoeur.

This distinction, which was presented on the occasion of the inauguration of the retention basin of rainwater of Ravine Cerisier, as part of project "Sove lavi Mòn Lopital", reward the Head of State for his commitment and dedication to the fulfillment of a set of consolidation work of this morne dominant the capital (extending from Jalousie to Carrefour).

The Head of State expressed the hope that the project "Sove Lavi Mòn Lopital" awaken consciences of the neighboring populations and push them to change their behavior towards the environment.

The deputies present, have all welcomed the project and reiterated their support for the actions of the Head of State through this program, which has helped to plant 375,000 trees, create jobs and train thousands of youth in environmental development strategies. The project also allowed the construction of a stone bund, the delimitation of 11 km (from alousie to Diquini) and the construction of a series of sediment retention basins and rainwater. Through this initiative, the risk of erosion and landslides will be significantly reduced.

The Head of State, while hoping that this initiative will help to curb the blatant degradation of Morne l'Hôpital, has renewed its commitment to a safe and healthy environment.
