Haiti - Reconstruction : Portfolio Review of Venezuela and Cuba 20/09/2013 11:35:55
Wednesday, after having review the portfolios of France and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, Laurent Lamothe, accompanied among others by, the Ministers of the Environment, Jean-François Thomas, agriculture, Jacques Thomas, has reviewed at the Ministry of Planning, the portfolios of the Venezuelan and Cuban cooperation. From the outset, the Head of Government has set the objectives of the meeting held with representatives of the Venezuelan cooperation. He stressed that the review of the portfolio of the Venezuelan cooperation aims to strengthen and intensify projects currently running in order to help rebuild the country. The Ambassador of Venezuela to Haiti, Pedro Gonzalez Canino during his presentation emphasized on the social programs that are carried out in Haiti, to the benefit of the population through the Petrocaribe program "Venezuela has a moral obligation towards Haiti. This country can be considered the mother of Venezuelan independence," said the Ambassador. Pedro Gonzalez Canino, mentioned other infrastructure projects underway in the country, including the construction of airports Jacmel, Les Cayes and Ile-à-vache. He also stressed the literacy program in which Venezuela is contributing up to 10 million U.S. dollars. During his meeting with the Cuban delegation, led by Ambassador Ricardo Sotero García Nápoles, Laurent Lamothe took the opportunity to salute and thank the historic Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who had initiated this new form of cooperation with Haiti based on the social needs of citizens.
Meeting with the Cuban and Venezuelan cooperants - The intervention of the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation - Venezuela's ambassador to Haiti during his presentation. "After 14 years of cooperation in the field of medical care, more than 20 million consultations were conducted, Cuban doctors working in Haiti have delivered over 149,000 women and 367,000 surgeries were performed," explained Cuban Ambassador during his presentation, adding that in the field of literacy "more than 300,000 people had been graduated," reaffirming its commitment to work with the Haitian authorities. Following these meetings, the Minister Lamothe has reiterated its commitment to continue to review the portfolio of International Cooperation to better coordinate the governmental action.
