On Monday, officials from the Ministry of Education, 14 days before the new school year, have announced a set of measures to allow educational establishments to operate in the best conditions and to the families to meet the costs of schooling of their children.

Duration of the school year :

School fees :

Free : for the irst and second cycles of the fundamental, of the 1st to the 6th year fundamental. Supports fully by the State under the Universal Schooling Program, Free and Compulsory (PSUGO) ;

240 gourdes for the 3rd cycle of the fundamental and the secondary. 400 gourdes for lycées.

Distribution of school kits and uniform :

783.345 school kits will be distributed throughout the territory, comprising a school bag, school supplies and a uniform ;

4,737 kits teachers;

550 school kits;

287,992 uniforms.

Textbooks :

1,093,100 textbooks in lend will be distributed to the neediest students ;

2,242,400 textbooks will be subsidized by the Government to 70%. (cost: 400 million gourdes for the Government).

School furniture :

10,500 school benches will be distributed by the Departmental Directorates of Education.

Community schools :

500 community schools will be accompanied this year by the Ministry of Education, through a process of nationalization. 3,000 teachers will be supported including the Directors and guardians of these schools.

Teaching hours :

Part-time faculty must provide a minimum of 6 hours per week;

The full-time faculty will provide 20 hours of class and 25 hours of attendance per week, in the establishment where they teach.
