Haiti - Education : The Ministry of Education is actively preparing the new school year

Friday, a working meeting between the General Directorate of the Ministry of Education and some technical directors, helped to finalize the amended draft school calendar for the 2013-2014 academic year. Thus, the new school calendar that takes into account the concerns of various sectors of national life is of 183 school days. The school year starts on October 1 and ends on July 11 with the completion of official baccalaureate exams (1st and 2nd parties). Three pedagogical days are planned: November 8, 2013, February 14 and 18 April 2014. National Day of School Statistics is planned on 31 January 2014.

In order to sensitize all educational agents on the need to respect the school calendar and especially the date of the back to school, the Ministry of Education started last week a communication campaign around the new school year whose date is Tuesday, October 1. To this end, a press release was issued, in which the Ministry requires to the Directors of public and private schools to take all necessary measures so that from October 1, the new school calendar prepared by the Ministry is respected.

Last Saturday Vanneur Pierre met with Departmental Directors and certain technical directors around the new school year. Compliance with instructions for the return ; the distribution of textbooks, kits and uniforms ; management of public schools and non-public ; the application of the latest provisions on the fees of school contribution ; the reports on the use of public funds ; the renewal of contracts ; the issue of nationalization of community schools ; the management Universal Schooling Program, Free and Compulsory (PSUGO) were the main topics discussed at the meeting.

The Minister, assisted by the Director General and Deputy Director General, urged the Departmental Directors to take all necessary measures to well ensure the back to school into their respective department. "We must bring order and give the school its former glory [...] Everything we do will only make sense if the children in the classroom see the improvement in their conditions of learning in the classroom."
