Haiti - Economy : Towards the creation of a Chamber of Commerce Haiti-Mexico

Speaking at the meeting "Latinoamerica Emprende" in the state of Michoacán, Guy Lamothe, Haiti's ambassador to Mexico, spoke in favor of the creation of a bilateral Chamber of Commerce, between Haiti and Mexico emphasizing that Haiti was interested in strengthening trade relations with Mexico in general and the state of Michoacán, in particular.

The "Latinoamerica Emprende" meeting held on 5 and 6 September 2013 in Morelia, capital of Michoacán, was an opportunity for the Ambassador Lamothe to sign a framework agreement with the "COMDEPyME" (Mexican Council for the Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise) to initiate steps towards the creation of the Chamber of Commerce. A businessmen mission of the State of Michoacan, will soon travel to Haiti.

Guy Lamothe, also took informations on the production of avocado, Michoacán being one of the largest exporters of this product worldwide, noting "Haiti is also a land of avocados and we would be interested that Haitian producers learn from the experience of Michoacán in technology in this field."

Moreover, with Salvador Guerrero Jara, the Rector of the University of Morelia (Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo), which has 55,000 students, cooperation opportunities also exist. A framework agreement is expected between the Embassy and the university in order to initiate discussions with Haitian institutions.

"There is great potential for a development of relations between Haiti and the state of Michoacán and we will ensure that links are formed in trade, education and agriculture," declared Ambassador Lamothe after the event, that brought together, among others, the Presidents of the Chambers of Commerce binational established in Mexico, business people, the governor of Michoacán, Jose Jesus Reyna Garcia and Juan Pablo Arriaga Diez, Minister of Economic Development of the State.
