Haiti - Education : 63 young professional graduates in sewing.

Friday, after several months of theoretical and practical training in manual and industrial sewing, offered free by the National Institute for the Development and Promotion of Sewing and funded by the UN Mission in Haiti [section Reduction community violence MINUSTAH (RVC)], to the tune of 183,000 U.S. dollars, 63 youth (38 girls and 25 boys), selected by the leaders of the neighborhoods in which they live, have successfully completed their training and received their diplomas during a ceremony held at the Center located in the town of Cité Soleil.

Jean-Robert Lebrun, Head of training INDEPCO, said "This training consisted of two stages: the first was to place new graduates as trainees in industries. The second step was to train the best graduates in entrepreneurship for 90 days [...] Our mission is to enable young Haitians to have appropriate training and improve their economic and social conditions."

Hans Pascal Garoute, President of INDEPCO stressed that "the technical and manual trades [...] are of training neglected, that no longer attract young people in Haiti [...] Like China, Vietnam or the Dominican Republic, if we want to reduce the unemployment rate in Haiti, authorities must begin by encouraging young people to move towards the manual or technical fields. We need to give young people a taste for technical fields, because it is an indispensable tool in the development of a country."
