Haiti - Elections : Electoral Bill passed before the parliamentary recess ?

Contrary to the statements of Jean Tholbert Alexis, President of the Lower House last Thursday, who told the press that the Special Commission [grouping 13 deputies all the trends] needed at least 4 weeks to complete the analysis of the draft electoral law, this, despite the request of the Head of State to grant to this bill the benefit of emergency ; it seems that the deputies of the Commission are of a different opinion,as they wish to submit their recommendations this week, so that the law can be ratified in the Lower House before the start of the parliamentary recess [September 9].

Created last Thursday, the Commission met at Club Indigo on Arcadins coast, has worked Friday to analyze the bill, despite internal disagreement of deputies minority of the opposition, denouncing the fact that the presidential majority belonging to the block "Parliamentarians for Stability and Progress" (PSP) have monopolized the most important positions of the office of the Commission...

This weekend, the Commission has conducted sessions with expert consultants. Significant work has been done, says the deputy Gluck Théophile, member of the Commission "They are on the right track" but expressed reservations about many of the articles of the draft electoral law.

On Sunday, members of the Commission have failed in their attempt to meet the leaders of political parties.

Since Monday, the Commission has stepped up its pace of work for the filing of the report this week and its ratification in the Lower House. For the deputy Député Théophile, members work tirelessly and these marathons sessions are likely to deliver this goal.

Monday members of the Commission met with members of civil society.
