Haiti - Culture : Towards the creation of a Museum of Carnival of Jacmel

The population of Jacmel and its visitors consider that it would be impossible to conceive an eventual "Destination Jacmel" without taking into account the highlight of the Carnival of Jacmel who knows a tremendous success from paper mache. In this perspective, the Departmental Directorate of Tourism South East met on 27 August 2013, several leaders around a project of Museum of Carnival of Jacmel.

Took part on that reunion : Hugues André Paul, Mayor of Jacmel ; Jean Solage, Deputy Mayor of Jacmel ; Michèle Frisch, General Director of MUPANAH ; Dithny Joan Raton, Departmental Director of Tourism South East; Lydie Maria Krauchi, Administrative Assistant to the Office of Tourism South East ; Carola Paredes, Technical Assistant Culture and Heritage Spanish Cooperation, Southeast and Emmanuelle Robert, UNESCO representative.

The following points were discussed during the meeting : Studies and execution of construction site (Tourist Port of Jacmel) ; Distribution of the spaces (Mini-bar, boutique, souvenir kiosks, multipurpose hall, documentation center) ; Collection of works (masks and costumes as well as rituals and festive accessories) ; Services offered (permanent exhibitions, temporary, publications, events (workshops, performances, etc.). ; Human resources and management of the museum and the inauguration of the project (late 2013-early 2014).
