Haiti - Agriculture : Fair-Exhibition on roots and tubers sector

As part of the festival of St. Louis of Jérémie, Thomas Jacques, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development in the presence of Marie Carmelle Rose-Anne Auguste, the Minister for Human Rights and the Fight against Extreme Poverty, the Secretaries of State for Agricultural Recovery, the agronomist Joseph Vernet and of Animal Production, Dr. Michel Chancy, Pierre-Guy Lafontant, Director General of the Ministry, the departmental Delegate, Mr. Norman Wiener and other officials of the department launched this weekend a 2-days Fair-Exhibition, on Roots & tubers such as yam, cassava, sweet potato, malanga, mazombelle apple-to-earth, carrot...

Took part in this activity, representatives of producer organizations in Grande-Anse, the Departmental Directorates Agricultural South, Nippes, West, North, Northwest, along with the producers of their respective departments.

"An n tounen nan rasin nou, nan manje, manje lakay", was the motto of this Fair-Exhibition organized by the Ministry of Agriculture. For the Minister Jacques Thomas, theis Fair-Exhibition is part of the dynamics of the administration Martelly/Lamothe and highlights the national production and the productive capacity of regions. It also serves as an incentive to encourage investors to take advantage of opportunities offered by the Roots & Tubers sector, noting that the Triennial Programme for Agricultural Revival of the Ministry, aims to promote the growth sectors and facilitate private investment in the sector.

The exhibitors have expressed satisfaction with the organization of the fair and asked the Ministry to reproduce it each year on the same occasion.

In addition, the Minister Jacques Thomas took the opportunity to announce to producers of tubers of the Grande Anse that 7 million gourdes for strengthening the Roots & Tubers sector, will be allocated in the perspective of Haiti's participation in the exhibition, organized by the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), in May 2015 in the city of Milan [Italy]."
