Haiti - Environment : Important seizure operation of polyethylene and polystyrene based products

Monday, as part of the implementation of the order passed by the Council of Ministers on 10 July 2013, at the National Palace, banning the production, import, marketing and use of packaging and non-biodegradable plastic bags in polyethylene or polystyrene, on the Haitian territory as of August 1, 2013, an important seizure operation of merchandise and closure of several warehouses, was conducted to the market Salomon, in Grand-rue, and to the market Hyppolite

The operation that took place without incident, was conducted by a "task force" composed of the Ministry of Environment, the Secretary of State for Public Security, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince and of Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Other similar operations will take place on roads and other warehouses to make scrupulously respect the decisions taken by the Administration Martelly and the Government Lamothe.

In addition, the Ministry of Economy and Finance informs that it will promptly take all necessary measures in order to facilitate the import of inputs, containers and paper products or cardboard fully biodegradable including sachets and bags made ​​of fiber, sisal or pite.

In a memorandum, the Office of Communication of the Prime Minister "calls for understanding and contribution of all citizens in order to implement and enforce these provisions endorsed by the Cabinet in force since August 1, 2013, on the whole extent of the national territory."
