Haiti - Security : Inauguration of a COUD in Fondfred

Tuesday, August 6, 2013, will be inaugurated in the presence of several officials of Haitian and U.S. governments, an Emergency Operations Center Departmental (COUD) and a warehouse of relief in case major natural event, in Fondfred, not far from Les Cayes.

These new infrastructure were built by theHumanitarian assistance program of the Southern Command of the U.S. Armed Forces in Haiti, in accordance with the Embassy of the United States, the U.S. International Development (USAID) Agency, the National Emergency Operations Centre and the Ministry of the Interior and Local Authorities.

The building housing the Emergency Operations Center with an area of ​​4,000 square feet and warehouse with an area of ​​4,800 square feet, cost 1,193,270 U.S. dollars. The project included training and equipment for members of the DPC in he Southern Department.

Recall that after the earthquake of 12 January 2010, the U.S. government helped the Haitian government to strengthen its capacity to respond in critical situations. In partnership with the Haitian government and the DPC, a total of ten COUD will be built across the country for a total of more than U.S. $ 34 million (8 schools, 6 clinics and 12 fire stations, whose 5 have already been completed and 7 under construction). These essential infrastructure, will help Haiti to better protect the population and to better respond to emergencies.
